July 2011. Brotherhood of The Wind/ Motorcycle Road Culture in America. New Mexico. Friends and collegues from Los Alamos National Laboratory while on a 'Poker Run', a scholarship benefit ride for a local scholarship. With close to 50 bikes and 75 riders in presence, the scene was a mayhem of metal, denim, and black leather. Music blared, hamburgers grilled, and Crown Royal whiskey passed from hand to hand. The ride, or “run”, as it’s called in motorcycle lingo, cost 15 bucks and at each of the five stops you got to draw a card. At the end of the day, the best Poker hand received an award such as a tune-up for your truck or a bottle of tequila. The profits collected then go to a scholarship fund that supports the education of local Espanola Valley youth. Piotr Redlinski for The New York Times.
